English website translation, and pages buyers abroad can find

English is the language most buyers outside your country search in. One set of indexable English pages reaches the United States, the United Kingdom, Southeast Asia and everyone who searches in English as a second language. Proxylang produces them from the site you already have.

Five things to know before you publish in English

English is a search market, not one country

An English site is read in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India and Singapore, and by buyers everywhere who search in English as a second language. That is why it is the first foreign language most companies add: one set of pages reaches all of them.

Google and Bing read different signals

Google decides which language to show from hreflang tags. Bing relies far more on the Content-Language header. Proxylang sends both on every translated page, so you do not have to set up each engine separately.

English pages run longer than Korean, Japanese or Chinese ones

The same sentence takes more characters in English. Buttons, menus and headings that fit in Korean, Japanese or Chinese can wrap or overflow in English. Check your own components once after you switch the language on.

Your company name needs one fixed spelling

A Korean, Japanese or Chinese name can be written in Latin letters in several ways, and an automatic translation may choose a different one on different pages. Pin the spelling on your business registration in the glossary, and every page uses it.

Text inside images stays in the original language

Many product pages put most of their sales copy inside images. Search engines cannot read that text, and a page translator skips it unless told otherwise. On every plan, you can mark the images you want translated. Each one uses an image credit, is translated once, and is kept.

English translation questions

Add one line of code to your site, or point your domain at Proxylang, and add English as a target language. Every page is translated, including meta titles, meta descriptions, alt text and form labels, and each one is served at its own English URL. Setup takes about a minute and there is nothing to install in your content management system.

Adding an Asian market as well? Each one has its own search engine rules — see Japanese , Chinese and Korean website translation.
